Hip Hop for a Cause: Free Show Friday to Benefit Food Bank

It doesn’t get much better than enjoying a night full of free, good music: especially when it’s all for a good cause.

Join some of Omaha’s most respected hip hop artists this Friday at The Hideout at 8:00pm. In lieu of a cover charge, attendees are encouraged to bring along canned food donations to benefit the Food Bank for the Heartland.

We recently reached out to organizer and local artist Jesse Latham (Shook On3) to get the behind-the-scenes scoop on the history of the event:

Say Hey There: The event is called “HunDonate.” What’s the meaning behind the name?

Latham: On my first album I have a track called “On a Hundo,” and I try to use that word like Lil Wayne used “Bling Bling” when I was a kid.

Say Hey There:
This isn’t the first year you’ve organized this event. What’s the history? What motivates you to put something like this together?

Latham: This is the third donation event I’ve thrown and we were able to donate over 1,400 pounds through the first two. Basically, I just wanted to help and give back to the community because it feels good! I know there are people who need help, and I feel it’s inhumane to not help other when you are fully capable of doing so.

Say Hey There: Do you have a donation goal you want to hit?

Latham: Trying to collect 1,000 pounds of canned food at this event!
